And How it Can Improve Your Health

When we live a life without a sense of purpose it can lead to suffering and psychological issues. It can lead to anxiety, depression, and even addiction.

In order to live a fulfilled life it is absolutely vital for us to have a sense of purpose. All humans crave a sense of purpose. Have you ever pondered the age old questions of “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?”

When living a life of purpose you will feel excited and have a reason to get up in the morning and you will experience a sense of excitement while going through your day. You will also experience less stress (at least the bad kind!), and you will become more focused and committed to your daily responsibilities.

Why Does Living a Life of Purpose Matter to Our Health and Longevity?

Purpose is an underlying aspect of living a fulfilling life. Purpose gives us a sense of growth and expansion which is a natural part of our human nature. Life on earth has always been vibrant and multi-faceted, we as humans are naturally vibrant and multi-faceted also.

When we have a sense of purpose and are able to direct our focus on that purpose, then our minds can exist in a more positive state of being.  We can actually have a healthier brain and a better state of mental acuity. We will experience less negativity and more sense of hope as we look into our future.

Living a life of purpose allows us to focus on something bigger and more important than ourselves. We all tend to get caught up in the many external distractions around us today, but when we focus on our purpose we can witness more of our life from a deep internal place within ourselves.

When we are able to help the needs of others rather than just dwelling on our own needs we can become focused on that purpose. This allows us to increase our own personal sense of self-confidence and self-control. Because we feel like we are achieving something important in our lives we will experience a greater feeling of wellbeing and happiness. 

Purpose Can Positively Influence Our Spiritual Health

Have you ever felt truly connected while doing something? Have you ever been involved in a project or activity where you felt in harmony with what you were doing?

When you have a sense of purpose, you never get up in the morning wondering what you’re going to do with yourself, you know that you will spend your day living your purpose. Purpose eliminates boredom and stimulates your creativity.

When we are able to live on purpose our life feels more alive and authentic, like we are doing what we were meant to be doing. When you love what you are doing you feel very contented and will become absorbed in what you are doing. Living on purpose allows your soul to feel fulfilled!

One of the common features among people who live their life with purpose is that they are able to find meaning in the things that happen to them along the way. Those with a stronger life purpose tend to also have healthier habits, behaviors and lifestyles.

When our lives have purpose we become more organized around that purpose and we in turn can become more conscious as a human. This can actually become part of our own spiritual evolution.

And Then There Are the Benefits to Our Physical Health

In addition to the emotional and psychological benefits, having a strong sense of purpose can also help with our physical health.

Living a life of purpose can positively affect our cardiovascular and immune systems by helping to eliminate stress and inflammation. Then this can also have a positive affect on pain management as our inflammation is lessened. All because when we have purpose we have greater sense of drive in our life and we are better able to cope with life challenges. Therefore we tend to be more resilient when things go wrong.

Studies have shown that people living with purpose actually live longer than those who don’t. Other studies have shown that people living with purpose are less likely to suffer from mobility challenges and even have a lesser chance of getting Alzheimer’s disease.

And those who have a greater sense of meaning and purpose in their life actually have better relationships with their family and friends. Can you see how this is a win/win situation? 

How many times have you heard about people who have died not long after retiring? Could it be that these people felt they no longer had a sense of purpose?

There are studies showing that those who retire earlier tend to die earlier but those who continue to live a life of purpose, even after retiring have a much better chance of living a long and healthy life.

Have you ever asked yourself what drives you each and every day?

Do you just try to “fit in” to the mold of society? Or can you find a way to bring more purpose into your life?

Or maybe you are one of the lucky ones who has discovered your purpose and lives each day from that passionate state of being on the right path. And by doing so you are able to reap the benefits for your own personal health and longevity.
