What is wholeness?

I like to think of it as a connection between our mind, body and spirit. Whenever we are disconnected from one, two or all three of these parts or aspects of our being then we are in fact separated from our wholeness. And when we become separated from our wholeness we are in fact “disconnected” and this can lead to many forms of “disease”.

So how do we embark on the path of becoming more whole? More connected? There are many, many ways, ways which have existed since time began.

My path to wholeness began when I started doing “Iyengar yoga” in my early 40’s. I can’t believe I waited that long to discover yoga! From that time on I began to look at my self differently. If I was taking the time to look after my outer body, then what about my inner body?

The practice of yoga gradually led me deeper and deeper into my self and allowed me to understand that our outer body is just a vehicle, a temple for something much more important which resides inside each and everyone of us. So, what about nourishing my inner self?

This led me on a search for the various ways I could nourish my body on the inside. Not only looking at diet and how I was feeding myself from a nutritional perspective, but also questioning how I was feeding my mind and consciousness.

Over the course of many years my diet has continued to evolve and adapt to what my body is truly needing, not just wanting. Foods that not only keep me healthy but that also nourish and energize me.

But what was I feeding my brain?

What was I doing in my life that could keep my mind healthy?

I became a sponge wanting to learn more and more about mind, body and spirit. About the various methods and applications I could apply that would nourish me and make me more “whole”. And I realized that this search is a never ending one, that none of us are perfect and never will be, and that each person has indeed been born to experience their own journey. Our journeys can be rough or smooth, but we sure learn a lot about ourselves as we move towards perfection and discovering our purpose for our time here “now”.

Actually, it is the imperfections we all own that are our greatest teachers, if we pay attention and connect with them. It is the tough or “dark” times that help us to grow more and more into the person we are meant to be and each of these phases of our lives carry deep messages, if we listen, that direct us to our purpose and how we are meant to serve while here on this planet.

I mentioned that it was yoga that started me on my journey, of which I am extremely grateful. Through yoga I became more conscious, more embodied. I treasure each day as an opportunity for new learning and growth in both my practice and teaching.

As much as yoga took me on one path towards wholeness and one that I continue to share with my students weekly, I am very grateful to have discovered The Institute For The Psychology of Eating. I had been looking for a nutritional based course for some time and when I stumbled across The Eating Psychology course it was that and so much more. It was like finding my missing link to wholeness!

The Eating Psychology training reinforces much of what the philosophy of yoga offers and dives deeper into not just what we eat, but who we are as eaters. Finally I feel that I have the tools to reach out and teach/coach people how to become whole. We are not broken. We don’t need to be fixed. We are already whole. We just need to reconnect, to become embodied.

I so enjoyed each and every month of this program and look forward to sharing my knowledge of Mind Body Nutrition as an Eating Psychology Coach. This course has led me on yet another path towards wholeness and more importantly another way to reach out to people in my community and worldwide to coach and guide them onto this beautiful path of discovery and self-acceptance.

I am extremely grateful to now be both a Yoga Instructor and  Health Coach and to use my skills and training in mind, body and spirit to help as many people as I can transform their own lives as I have been able to transform mine.
